Prayagraj- Prayagraj is one of the oldest cities in India. It is crowned in ancient scriptures as ‘Prayag’ or ‘Teertharaj’ and is considered the holiest of pilgrimage centres of India. It is situated at the confluence of three rivers- Ganga, Yamuna and the invisible Saraswati. The meeting point is known as Triveni and is very sacred to Hindus. The Kumbh held in every six years and Mahakumbh in every 12 years at Prayagraj (Sangam) are the largest gatherings of pilgrims on this earth.
Historically, the city has been a witness to many important events in India’s freedom struggle such as emergence of the first Indian National Congress in 1885, the beginning of Mahatma Gandhi’s non-violence movement in 1920.
2. Banaras- If you want to spend your day besides a river bank, watching the spritiual rituals, holy works, aarti, have fun while boating then Banaras is the perfect place. Varanasi is a beautiful north indian city set in the state of Utter Pradesh. It is about 5.8 km from varansi junction as we have taken rooms at that area. We took the local auto costing 20₹ and after a journey of 15 min reached to the market besides the banaras ghat from where we have to walk through to the ghat. Varanasi, also called Benares, Banaras, or Kashi, city. It is located on the left bank of the Ganges (Ganga) River and is one of the seven sacred cities of Hinduism.
Their are many things to do compel you to stay there foreever. From seeking prayers at the temple to bathing in the holy ganges, there is a lot to experience in the spritual city.
The famous ghat is the Assi ghat besides the river ganga which is named after the 80 ghats present here.
Believers are seen chanting prayers to appease and get blessings from the River Goddess. It is highly considered to be of salvation and purification and there is an endless number of pilgrim throughout the year visiting the ganges.
You trip is in incomplete without the soul-stirring ride on the quint waters of the holy river. There is no dramatic moment than soaking in the view of setting on the river. My rower while rowing sang some folk song which make it even more memorable. Cost is around 200-300 a round trip.
Besides these ghats, the Banaras city has its own old and famous university, Banaras Hindu University.
